The ‘Waste Not’ Free Shop

Discover Renewable Energy Solutions for a Greener Future

Many items that we buy for ourselves, our homes and our family members are already available and unwanted in our communities.

At the Green Ways Hub at
13a Southview Park, Caversham
RG4 5AF, you can…

– find free items that you need.

This can be anything – saucepans, books, wellies, coffee tables, clothing, birthday cards.

– donate unwanted items…

including items that charity shops are not usually taking such as floorboards, pieces of insulation, and all the items that end up in the bin or at the local tip. We take most things except sofas and white goods. If an item is large please email or DM us ahead to check that we have space for the item. We can sometimes get very full, and we need to allow space for people to move around safely.

– respond to and make requests for items

from the community (eg I need a shelf bracket, dog bed, radiator key etc).

The household items that we gather are also redistributed through partnerships with local refugee organisations and charities supporting people affected by domestic violence, as well as referrals from the Job Centre, and local authorities.  We are happy to take referrals. We welcome local schools and nurseries into the unit to select items for their classrooms and learning spaces.

Work with Refugee Communities

Green Ways works with

to run a dedicated session every Tuesday morning from 10 am to 12 midday for refugees and people seeking sanctuary. We help people to source items that they need for setting up home and we also collect and distribute donated toiletries. We provide volunteering opportunities which help people to make connections within the community and to develop language skills.

We are pleased to share our space with…

…a local resource or library of items such as quality garden tools, sewing machines, carpet cleaners and other items that can be loaned – removing the need for people to buy and store their own equipment. Did you know that the average drill is used for just 13 minutes in its lifetime?

Also working from the unit is…

with whom we partner on non-formal learning, including sewing and craft activities.
